General

The PrimeraPro is a dual-function dye-sublimation/wax thermal transfer color printer that delivers amazing 600 x 300 dpi, photo-quality output. With an average retail price under $2,000.00, PrimeraPro has become one of the best-selling dye-sublimation printers in history during its first year on the market.

PrimeraPro's exceptional output is perfect for artists, designers and illustrators who require high quality proofs, comps, layouts, photos and video captures. The printer's high resolution also makes it ideal for monochrome text printing in desktop publishing or word processing applications. By simply installing FARGO's new matte monochrome ribbon, PrimeraPro delivers laser quality prints.

PrimeraPro is supported by nearly all industry-standard color matching programs, such as Agfa FotoTune, DayStar Digital ColorMatch, Kodak KCMS and Adobe's Device Independent Color Matching.

PrimeraPro also has a unique option that allows the printer to produce snap-shot size, photo-quality color prints, ideal for video frame grabs and medical and scientific images. The A6-Size Accessory Kit allows PrimeraPro to print fast, inexpensive A6-size (approximately 4" x 5") prints in addition to regular A and A4-size output.

PrimeraPro also provides Macintosh users with many high end features, including a standard LocalTalk® interface and optional Adobe(TM) PostScript(TM) Level 2 and Ethernet. The Macintosh version of the printer is shipped with a QuickDraw(TM) driver, which also runs on PowerPC(TM).

PrimeraPro has some fun options as well, including the ability to print on media that can be transferred to mugs and T-shirts.

More about transferring...

The PrimeraPro(TM) Color Printer has always utilized two different, yet closely related printing technologies
-wax thermal transfer and dye-sublimation. Now, through a new ribbon called the PowerPrint(TM) Sublimation
Ribbon, this printer can also print through a third technology called hybrid sublimation.

Hybrid sublimation, sometimes referred to as true sublimation, is used entirely for printing images which can be
transferred to mugs, plaques, metal trophies, ceramic tiles or plates, and much more. This technology utilizes a
three color, multi-pass process beneath your printer's thermal printhead, just like wax thermal transfer and
dye-sublimation. Hybrid sublimation is unique, however, because it essentially merges qualities from both the wax
thermal transfer and dye-sublimation print methods.

The PowerPrint ribbon is composed of sublimation dyes which are suspended in a wax-based carrier. The wax
thermal print process is used to transfer the wax-based carrier to any smooth surfaced, non-coated paper such as
FARGO's standard grade wax thermal paper. The sublimation dyes within, however, are not released until the
printed image is heated on a heat press. When the image is heated, the dyes sublimate into the transfer surface
while the wax-based carrier remains to prevent the dyes from being absorbed back into the paper.

Because hybrid sublimation uses the wax thermal print mode, images print very fast, yet still have a near
photo-realistic appearance when transferred because of the sublimation dyes. Hybrid sublimation images can be
transferred to fabric, wood, metal, glass, ceramic, plastic or any other material which has a special polymer
coated surface.
